Victor Kline returns to the stage

Crows Nest resident and recent unsuccessful candidate for the federal seat of North Sydney, Victor Kline, will after a decade’s break from the stage make a return to acting.

He will be playing one of the leads in the upcoming world premiere of A Fortunate Few, a new one-act drama about money, power and inequality. He plays wealthy businessman Thomas Urquhart, who offers a homeless man the opportunity of a lifetime to leapfrog into a high-paid job.

A Fortunate Few is a powerful new one-act drama from award-winning playwright Steven Hopley (author of Monopoly, Fear and William Shakespeare’s Reservoir Dogs) about a homeless man named Mani, who crosses paths with a wealthy businessman who offers him a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to leapfrog into a high-paid job.

The play opens at a time of unprecedented levels of homelessness. “It’s about luck,” said Hopley, “and tackling the harmful myth that hard work is all it takes, when we know the hardest working people in society are often paid the least.”

Kline last appeared on stage in 2011 in the Sydney Shakespeare Company production of Othello. He has been seen on stage in dozens of performances, both in Australia and in New York, including lead roles in plays as diverse as Hedda Gabler, Julius Caesar, South Pacific, David Williamson’s The Club, The Salsa Lesson and The Balmain Jesus.
