Federal Libs target Tink on tax cuts even though she supports them – North Sydney Sun

Deputy federal opposition leader Sussan Ley has paid a visit to North Sydney as part of what she described as an effort to listen to local residents and small businesses in an attempt to reclaim the seat at the next election. The Coalition lost the seat to independent Kylea Tink at the May election.

“I have spent the morning meeting with residents and communities and chatting to people in this amazing part of Australia’s biggest city. And my message today to the residents and the communities in this part of the world is we hear you and we are here for you,” Ley said on Thursday.

Ley specifically focused on living cost pressures and the potential for the government to reverse legislated tax cuts for middle and high income earners at the next budget.
“If it wasn’t for the actions of the Liberal Party, on the chopping block at that budget in 12 days time would have been the stage three tax cuts, that many of the independents said they would support prior to the election,” Ley said.

“So where are they and where is that advocacy for their community? Now the Member for North Sydney did say, and I acknowledge, that people on $140,000 a year are not rich. But where is her advocacy to make sure that those stage three tax cuts are locked in and guaranteed, not just put off until after the Budget. Remember there’s another budget in about seven months time. Where is the advocacy of the Member for North Sydney on those issues?”

Earlier at an investment conference in Sydney, Tink was quoted as stating: ““Right here, right now, it is unfair to put people in that income bracket of around that $120,000 to $140,000 mark as rich. They are not rich. There’s been significant creep through our taxation levels and we need to be aware of that.”
